Valletta, capital of Malta, is situated on its northeast coast and is flanked by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and two great harbours to the east and south. The city constitutes a natural fortress that was further strengthened by the Knights of St John following the Great Siege by the Turks in 1565. It was an event commemorated with an interactive show and exhibition in the city, which is one of its main attractions.

In Valletta you are bang in the middle of the cultural life and historic context of the Maltese island group. It certainly has the most things to do and see, and holidays in Valletta are full of sights and sounds that make the island unique. A lot of the attractions of course are centred on the Great Siege of 1565.

Open-air restaurants line the squares near the Grand Master’s Palace. The ramparts that once sawed off waves of Turkish attacks are now the site of numerous restaurants, which offer many stunning sea views. There are also plenty of cafés and restaurants in other parts of the city.
