Tenerife Holidays

Things to do

You are of course free to spend your Tenerife Holidays lazing on the beach. The sun will no doubt shine virtually every day; the food will be good and there will not be a soul in sight to spoil your relaxation. The island has more to offer than sun, sand, and sea though. Once you tire of this, why not go on an excursion? Visit the great volcanic mountain of Las Cañadas del Teide, from the summit of which you can virtually see the whole island. For more special views, take the highway from Puerto de la Cruz to Laguna and take the detour to Tacoronte. Six miles from there you will arrive in Bajamar and just over a mile from there is the lookout point of Punta de Hidalgo, with stunning views of the Anaga highland ridges stretching into the distance.
You can also take a trip to the Teno highland in the north and visit some of the many interesting villages in the area. This is a beautiful stretch of road starting in Puerto de la Cruz and passing through rugged mountains and coastal scenery.

What Not To Miss
Another essential location in Tenerife is the town of Villa de la Orotava. It lies in a lush banana-growing region of the same name. The old town boasts some magnificent historical buildings in a good state of repair. This is a town of beautiful shaded patios, leafy green squares and a general feeling of peace and quiet.
The old town, declared a national monument, hosts amongst others the Concepcion Parish Church, the Casa de los Balcones and the Documentation Research Centre of Spanish and American Crafts.
The major historical town of Tenerife is the second biggest city, La Laguna. The whole city is a veritable treasure house of colonial buildings and art. There are numerous well-kept monuments, palaces, and houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Among the most notable are the Cathedral, the Churches of Santa Domingo and Concepcion and San Miguel Chapel.

Experience the Heart of Tenerife
Your holidays will not be complete if you have not attended at least one carnival or festival. The first prize here is no doubt the yearly carnival taking place in February each year. According to many visitors, this is one of the best in the world, after the carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Virtually the whole island takes part in this extravaganza of music and fantastic costumes.
