St George's Bay at a glance

St George’s Bay in southeast Malta is only a few kilometres from Valletta and Paceville, which offers historic attractions and nightlife. The bay itself has one of the few decent beaches on the island. Malta is more of a natural fortress than a sandy beach destination, but Pretty Bay was recently created from dredged sand and now constitutes a major attraction. It is lined with shops and restaurants, and popular with water sports enthusiasts.

Friendly and Relaxing
Holidays in St George’s Bay are ideal for snorkelling and sunbathing, and it is also used by local fishermen who keep their boats moored there. There are not many heritage sites in the immediate area apart from some notable cart ruts made in prehistoric times, but there are plenty of attractions of all kinds slightly further afield on this small gem of an island.

Families are especially well catered at holidays in St George’s Bay. Kid’s menus are available in most of the local restaurants, and there is a new shopping and leisure centre in Bay Street. There is also a multi-screen cinema and ten-pin bowling. The whole area has a cosmopolitan look and feel to it.

There is a wide variety of food and drink on offer in the numerous restaurants and smaller establishments dotted across the bay area. In the Bay Street Shopping Centre visitors can get fast food that the kids usually prefer as well as local cuisine.
