General Information and Main Attractions
Sharm El Sheikh is situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It started as a small fishing village, but has since developed into one of Egypt’s most popular and best-developed beach resorts.
The main tourist area is called Naama Bay and consists of a mile long stretch of sandy beaches, restaurants, hotels, and bars. This is where most of the tourist facilities are located and it has a very lively atmosphere at night.
The Ras Mohamed Marine National Park, just southwest of Sharm El Sheikh, is widely considered one of the best diving areas in the world. The Strait of Tiran, a few kilometres to the North of town also has some excellent diving spots. The Strait separates the east coast of Sinai from the Tiran Island and there are beautiful coral reefs in the middle of the channel.
