Things to do
Main Activities
Holidays in Hurghada are in the first place geared towards beach and water activities. Relaxing on the beach, swimming or taking part in a whole range of activities such as snorkelling, fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, or even desert safaris. On your Hurghada holidays, you will in fact find some of the finest diving spots in the world. Some of the offshore islands that offer excellent diving opportunities include Shadwan Island, Shaab Abu Shiban, Shaab el-Erg, Umm Gammar Island, Shaab Sagir Umm Gammae, and Careless Reef.
Explore the Ocean
It is also possible to explore the offshore coral reefs. A trip that is especially worth taking is the glass boat trip to the coral reefs, enabling you to truly appreciate their beauty without getting wet. Other memorable trips include quad biking deep into the Sahara desert, enjoying tea with a genuine Bedouin tribe and a camel trip into the desert to explore ancient ruins.
Nightlife
Hurghada holidays will give you the taste of a vibrant nightlife. The large clubs, such as Hed Kandi Beach Bar and the Ministry of Sound Egypt, has lively parties seven nights each week. There are also numerous bars in town where you can enjoy a night out. The new Hurghada Marina Boulevard has over 80 different shops, 15 restaurants offering a wide range of cuisine, and seven bars.
Shopping
Shopping is also a favourite pastime for many on Hurghada holidays. The city centre bazaar area offers a large range of souvenirs at better prices than what you will pay at the fancier shops. Remember that haggling is not only possible – it is expected. If you pay the initial price, you will most likely overpay by up to 400%! If its brand names you are after, head for the new shopping Marina. Here you will find all the major international brand names (at international prices), as well as a purpose-built traditional bazaar.
Excursions
Hurghada is a popular spot from where to explore other areas in Egypt. As already mentioned, Cairo and Luxor are only a few hours away by bus (even less by plane). The Sinai Peninsula and Sharm El-Sheikh are two other popular side trips. This is where you will find two of the oldest Christian temples on earth, St Anthony’s and St Catherines.
A Place Not to Miss
A day trip to the uninhabited island of Giftun is another very special occasion. This island is surrounded by beautiful coral reefs, crystal clear waters, and white sandy beaches. Warning: you might not want to return to Hurghada when the boat arrives to pick you up again in the afternoon!
