Things to do
Golfing
The Algarve is a hugely popular destination for European tourists looking for sunshine and luckily the area is large enough so that visitors very rarely feel crowded. The attractions of Algarve holidays are well known to golfers because of the multitude of courses surrounded by world-class scenery. Since winters are mild, golfers flock here to get their golfing “fix” and some sunshine at the same time. There are enough golf courses to enable golfers to play a different one every day, or focus on a particular type such as seaside courses or links courses. No matter what your golfing preference, you will find it on your Algarve holiday.
Step Back in Time on the Algarve
As it has been inhabited for millennia, the Algarve region has history everywhere. The largest town, Faro, has been around since at least Roman times, and probably well before it. You may enjoy visiting Caldas de Monchique, originally a Roman spa. Today several health spas can be found in the region, and those on Algarve Holidays can make the most of their healing properties. Alternatively, visit the tourist town of Albufeira as this area is not only ancient, but has been well-preserved over the centuries, so you can get a good idea of what the region looked like many years ago. There is also a small museum that houses Ming ceramics, as well as a Virtual Archaeology Museum, which is a fascinating stop for those interested in discovering what lies beneath.
Become a Foodie on the Algarve
The Algarve has developed a deserved reputation as a place where you can find a wide variety of delicious food at very reasonable prices. Start with a wine tour and tasting in Guia at the Cliff Richards’ Winery. Later, visit Praia do Rocha and eat at one of the restaurants that fronts the beach, relaxing afterward with a glass of local wine. Make a point of visiting the town of Olhão, famous for its quality and quantity of seafood, all available at very reasonable prices. Be sure to try some of the local favourites, such as baked puffs from the bakery, Cataplana, a wine-sautéed mix of meats braised together in a pan, or Piri-Piri, a spicy chicken dish served in the inland areas of the Algarve. If you are not yet a fan of different kinds of food, sampling the local cuisine on these Algarve holidays is a good place to start. Restaurants from casual to formal are everywhere, and local and world cuisines are available to you.
Outdoor Activities on Your Algarve Holiday
Those who like to go trekking, biking or take part in other active outdoor pursuits can enjoy doing so on Algarve. The cooler months in spring and autumn, which have moderate temperatures, provide the most ideal time to go.
